'Society' or 'Community' is the most powerful institution in a social structure, especially in a democracy like India. The degree to which it can influence change is infinite. Society is the force of individual members bound together and united by one purpose, mutual wellbeing, also known called 'social order'. In this society exists a large but vulnerable group of members whose wellbeing directly influences the present and future state of society. These are our children. 'SOCIETY FOR THE CHILD is a citizens' movement that aims to empower society to care for our children, our future. We believe that every CHILD matters and no one must be left behind.

Our Vision
A society that values the rights of a child and is compassionate towards her/his needs, wellbeing and protection

The Mission
To sensitise & mobilise society towards the wellbeing of every child in society.
Our Values

SOCIETY FOR THE CHILD is independent of any government, non-government, commercial, political or religious organization. The portal has been curated to spread awareness and empower citizens towards the needs, wellbeing and rights of a child. We strictly conform to The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the the law of the land but content is subject to the perception and interpretation of the writers. We welcome feedback from any citizen and would be happy to publish your work on the subject.

I am a Mumbai based journalist turned child rights paralegal. While journalism gave me the first exposure to the grassroot reality of our society, given a strong urge to work with children, my journey in the media lasted only a brief five years. However, it equipped me with skills and experience that have added tremendous value to my work in the social sector. In 2009 I started working as a project manager with Saraswati Mandir Trust, an organisation that advocates and implements inclusive education for children with disability. I simultaneously pursued my Diploma in Child Rights Law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, which further reinforced my commitment towards  the  cause. Over  the  last  15   years,  my  work  in  the  sector  has  ranged   from   representing children in violation of their rights to advocating child rights amongst stakeholders. I have worked with stakeholders from children to the government.

I have come to believe that more than any other group, civil society is failing to keep our commitment towards our children. We turn a blind eye towards their needs and wellbeing not realising its long term repercussions on them and its impact on our own lives. SOCIETY FOR THE CHILD is an attempt to empower the community to protect our children, to nudge other stakeholders to comply with the law and to demand accountability on behalf of our children. Without your participation, this endeavour to form a SOCIETY FOR THE CHILD would remain incomplete. I hope, together, we are able to give our children the compassionate community they deserve. I look forward to your support.
